the rifles travelled to barton and lost 34, 10,
hard fought affair barton were just too strong in the end, but at 22, 10 with ten minutes to go the rifles were always in it.
no prizes for guessing where barton 1st team were playing

I know Barton is a strange place but did not know it is in a different time zone , or could it be the prof has invented a time machine? ? all those who would like to discuss this matter can meet a week last wednesday in the rugby club bar, all welcome ( provide your own transport)

the 6ths were beaten 17- 12 in a very competative game with Mansfield 4ths. A very spirited performance in almost summer weather

Well we did play in summer weather, and it was only on the next pitch, away at Mansfield, home ref, 17 mins of extra time, even a sin binning deep in our half, and we still kept them out. The fourth team showed some resiliance against the odds, on their way to beating Mansfield 3rd team 20-12, for the first 10 min the greens were under pressure, giving away penalties unnecessarily, but with Steve Hackett playing his best game to date stealing ball in the line-outs, thus keeping the greens in the game, on 15 mins Hackett stole the ball the green pack set up a driving maul which prop Stuart Logan rolling off and bulldozing through to score the first try, converted by Ian Chafer 7-0. From the kick off the greens startec applying pressure oncemore with some great work from the backs, although with the ref expecting the greens to have released the ball in the tackle before they had even hit the floor, frustration started to set in, along with ill-discipline, allowing Mansfield to keep kicking clear. Paul Baxter playing his 1st game for the 4th's turned the ball over on the edge of the 22, the greens set up a driving maul which they controlled and kept going all the way with Hackett scoring the try, unconverted, 12-0. The greens sat back thinking they had done enough when 2 min later Mansfield broke through a sloppy defence scoring just before half time 12-7. The 2nd half started much the same, with Mansfield playing a spoiling game, killing the ball at every oportunity preventing any clean ball to allow the green backs to run, tempers frayed and as one of the green pack was been attended to for a blood injury that went unpunished, Mansfield scored their 2nd try, 12-12. Within 5 minutes the greens were awarded only their 2nd penalty for an off the ball incident, kicked by Chafer, 15-12. The game moved into injury time, the line outs still working in the greens favour, another steal, the backs punching holes in the defence through 2 phases ably recycled and out to winger Pete Foster who scored in the corner in the last minute, leaving the 4th team well deserved winners 20-12. Man of the Match honours went to Tony Wilkinson for the 2nd week running.

The third team beat Sleaford seconds 42-0. Tries for Smith, Bournes, Mychajluk, Watterson and two for Ian Lee, with Ian kicking two penalties and three conversions.
