Report writen by Tom Pykett
Sat 15th Nov 09,
Newark 3rds v scunny 3rds,
This friendly game was a one sided affair, not surprising, to the good of scunny.
First scrum was one against the head, in Newark’s favour, but from then on the very tight knit opposition saw them score 6 tries by half time, four conversions to boot, 38-0.
Newark were determined to avoid a white wash, and set their goal for the second half of getting some points on the board.
Dean Topham was the man for the job, playing on the right wing, eventually broke several tacklers and barged his way over to the relief of Newark always being on the back foot.
Never the less, scunny still managed 4 second half tries, showing their true experience of a team playing together for several seasons.
To list Newark’s credits, Ben Combes had plenty of kick off practice, perfecting his high drop outs and Ricci Geatrell for non stop tackling the much larger lads we were playing against.
The Ref, Vance Owen, must have felt the same as Newark players and blew up ten minutes early. (Was a lot more pleasing in getting behind the first team and supporting them on to a good league win.)
Final score;
Newark 5, scunny 62. (10 tries, 6 conversions)
