A tail of 2 games here fellas...The first game against Hull last sunday was somewhat of a shock to most....12-3 up in the first half then to lose the game 36-17 ??...Ok lets be honest i don't think we were in the right frame of mind and a few decisions went against us but i don't think we performed and allowed ourselves to be bullied by a big physical team....and as this was a 'training' match all the 'babies' were given a runout and i think got a rude awakening....
Now on to the game against Morley ..away on a rainy night in yorkshire (Is there any other kind??)...An absolute turnaround in attitude and performance....Right from the off in difficult conditions...We stuck to the task and looked like we really wanted it...Ok we were back up to near full strength but the spark and hunger had returned.
Morley were first on the score sheet through a cheeky bit of play from their 10 but we didn't panic...and went straight back down the field and scored from a brilliant rolling maul...Will doing the honours with the touchdown....The game tied at 5-5 as the weather put paid to the conversion attempts from both sides...
But the young greens were absolutely dominating their opposite numbers in the scrummage so much so the the ref began to penilalise ?.
In the second half changes were made with some of the youngsters coming into the game some in unaccustomed positions but the vain of the game continued...A penalty in front of the posts allowed Goodison to restore a narrow lead....Then a fantastic break down the blind side of another rock solid scrum saw a ofload to one of the dubutants who rounded the fullback with ease and was certain to score only for the ref to adjudge a forward pass???
Morley were always a threat in the back line and a flowing move down the left found the green defence for once floundering and appeals for a forward pass were waived away from the official for the winger to go over in the corner.
This decision rattled the greens as more of the decisions were going the way of the hosts...All the remaining youngsters were sent on to the field and equipt themselves very well proving a solid defence. Nearing the end of the game the green forwards battered their way towards the Morley line only to be thwarted by a knock on ...but unditurbed normal service was resumed by the ball once again being won against the head this time replacement Drury going over only to be denied being adjudged held up?? So from the next scrummage the greens secured and went through a couple of phases seeing the big prop Probert crashing over ....Thinking the game was won the greens wheeled away in delight only for the offical to once again call held up? and then to blow the final whistle....!!!
A disappointing result losing 10-8 but a stellar performance by all ...
Keep this fine vain of form going into Sunday's tournament gents ...
A game that made you fell very pround to be apart of this regime.
